The Onion's Tale
8 x 9 1/2" broadside. Letterpress printed in three colors on repurposed cardstock, this piece's title visually summons the medieval/mid-century humorist mashup of Monty Python. 'The Onion's Tale' features a contemporary grocery store experience, an apt topic for a compressed story, as it can induce a feeling of panic, a need to quickly gather the goods and head for the door. This feeling of alienation has become more acute with the rise of Whole Foods, who has perfected their décor to maximize lingering and lull its shoppers into serene states of incubation. This piece attempts to capture that tension between those who become absorbed in a store’s constipated aesthetic and those who prefer the mad dash.
